Hi zephyr. love your blog. this sounds weird because i don’t even have twitter (hence why i’m saying this on here) but when i came on this site i saw in your twitter updates you said how you don’t like spinach so i just wanted to say that neither do i so what i do is put like 2 raw cups in my fruit smoothie every morning :) it makes the smoothie totally green colored but you don’t even taste it, if anything it seems like it makes the smoothie taste sweeter. hope that helps.

Celebrity Street Style of the Week: Whitney Port, Malin Akerman, & Minka Kelly

Written by Demi – University of Maryland 12 Comments

Every week, i scour the web to find inspiring outfits on your favorite celebs and help you recreate their looks! this week, i was inspired by whitney port, malin akerman, and minka kelly. read on to see how you can get their looks for yourself.

Look 1: Whitney Port’s Lace Ruffle Dress Transformation

I try to feature different celebs each week in order to give you guys a wide range of inspiration, but i just had to feature whitney port again – she has been killing it fashion-wise lately. this week, she wore the same ruffled lace dress twice — but in two completely different ways. i was so inspired by her transformation, i knew i needed to share it with you guys!

For her first look, whitney rocked her lace dress with some gray tights, brown boots, and a navy blazer, along with a clutch and hair up in a messy yet chic bun. for the second look, whitney swapped in some black tights, black ankle booties, a leather biker jacket, a stone-encrusted necklace, and a clutch. it’s so cool to see how a single dress can go from equestrian-chic to rocker fabulous with a simple change of accessories; the ruffles balance out the sharp lines of both jackets, and the cream color is neutral and goes with either color palette.

To recreate whitney’s ensembles, a cream-colored tier dress with ruffles and/or lace is the ideal place to start. above, i featured a beautiful creation from free people, and while the price tag may be a bit steep, it is a perfectly intricate and special dress that can be worn so many different ways – to me, it’s worth the investment!

For the first look, a navy blazer worn over the dress gives it structure, while gray tights add warmth and dimension, making this frock suitable for the colder months! brown riding boots complement the equestrian feel of the blazer — couldn’t you imagine this look on the ralph lauren runway?

The second look is all about attitude, with its tough-meets-pretty aesthetic. the delicate nature of the dress, highlighted by the gemstone necklace, contrasts nicely with the leather motorcycle jacket, black studded booties, and black tights. as you can see, there are a million ways to wear this dress – all you need is a quick change of accessories for a brand new look.

Look 2: Malin Akerman’s Leather & Leopard

Malin akerman was spotted on a movie set this week looking tough yet chic in black skinny jeans, motorcycle boots, a black leather motorcycle jacket, a white t-shirt, a grayscale leopard print scarf, black ray ban wayfarers, and a slouchy handbag. when i saw this look, i instantly thought of how perfect it would be for a full day of classes – it’s casual and comfortable, but touches like the scarf and sunglasses keep the look fashion-forward.

Jeans, T-shirt, Jacket, Scarf, Sunglasses, Boots, Bag

Malin’s look begins with black skinny denim, so to recreate her look for a day of classes, i found a pair of denim leggings. (there is nothing better than comfy denim, which explains why jeggings have become my go-to item most mornings! ) next, just add a simple white t-shirt on top, and a leather motorcycle jacket over that — easy peasy! a gray-toned leopard print scarf adds a trendy accent, as do classic ray ban wayfarers and a handbag with cool zipper detailing. black motorcycle boots complete the look.

Look 3: Minka Kelly’s Neutrals and Chunky Knits

Minka kelly, of friday night lights fame, was out and about in beverly hills this week making a chunky knit sweater look trendy with olive green skinny pants, a white t-shirt, aviator sunglasses, and suede lace-up booties with rubber soles.

When i see sweaters like this one hanging on a store’s rack, two thoughts cross my mind: first, i think, “yum, that knit looks deliciously cozy and i just want to live in it! ” and second, i think, “there is no way that would look good on me. ” however, minka proves it is possible to rock one of those delicious knits on the street, without looking frumpy at all!

Outfit Inspired by Minka

Pants, T-shirt, Sweater, Shoes, Bag, Sunglasses, Necklace

These forever 21 twill cargo leggings rival the comfy-factor of this perfectly oversized chunky knit sweater. underneath the sweater, add a plain white t-shirt, and to accessorize with a pendant necklace like this four leaf clover one. aviator sunglasses and a brown shoulder bag with buckle detailing also add some flair, although my personal favorite piece in the look is the pair of lace-up booties – rubber heeled shoes are perfect for winter, plus they are very “in” this season!

What do you think?

These looks are awesome. you are definitely forgiven for featuring whitney port two weeks in a row-girl can’t help it if she’s rocking it lately. i actually really loved seeing the two looks of whitney’s side by side. i was totally inspired. malin’s and minka’s looks were great too. all of the looks you featured were both chic and do-able for a college student. your version of their looks are spot-on. great post!

Updated Book Titles: Less Pretentious, More Accurate

in Comedy, Literature | April 11th, 2011 1 Comment

Over at ohnotheydidn’t, you can find some alternative titles for some of the most famous books ever written — or, in ondt’s own words, titles that are “more accurate and less pretentious” than the originals.

Before clicking over to the (slightly nfsw)whole collection, test your high/low cultural agility by trying to guess a few originals from their updates:

1. my dad is cooler than your dad

2. emotions are for poor people

3. shakespeare minus the good writing

4. likable rapists

5. white people ruin everything

If you got all five right, nay, if you got any right, we’re counting on you for the clueless sequel.

– Famu’s Honor Students Caught In Registration Chaos

Posted in Сентябрь 5th, 2008

Honor students at florida a&m university currently suffer behind red tape, loopholes and four-hour long lines in the grand ballroom.

Students under varying scholarships, the ones the school works the hardest to maintain, are also the ones wading through the most problems during the first few weeks of school.

The main problem stems from students not receiving their scholarship money on time. Gregory Souvenir/The FamuanRegistration at FAMUThe lack of promised funds from the university leaves students with “cashier’s holds” on their accounts. The holds are what can prevent a student from registering until the university can rectify the mistake or until the student pays a substantial amount on their own.

Many students were afraid to speak out for fear of the university “messing with [their] money too. ”

“what’s basically happened was something messed up with my fafsa (free application for federal student aid).   however, when i went to my scholarship advisor to look at it, she told me just to sit back and wait,” said ulyssa hester, 19, from stone mountain, ga. “when we finally looked at it in october we realized something was wrong. but i went to go see her in august to get her to look at it first. ”

The oversight left hester struggling to register throughout the first week of school. she was not alone, as lines stretched out the door for days in the financial aid office, the cashier’s office and in the grand ballroom where students were trying to register late for class.

The situation in the grand ballroom was nothing short of chaos.

The people at the start of the line had no idea where the end of the line was. students cut in front of others with threats of violence.

“this is totally insane,” said leah parker, 18, a freshman from tallahassee. “i thought famu wanted me here. i have a scholarship and i’m waiting in line for three hours so i can have one more class. and this is after i waited in line an hour to remind famu i was on scholarship in the first place. ”

Other honor students in the line shared similar sentiments. last friday, violence broke out in the line itself, leaving students frustrated.

The feeling of rejection left many students scratching their heads as to why these problems could not be rectified sooner. student accounts advised students to be on the lookout for anything on their “irattler” account that seemed strange.

Students can check the “to-do” list, to view holds and make sure scholarships are posted to accounts.

“there were about two months and some change where something could have been done,” hester said. “my time was wasted. it would have taken about five minutes if she would have just checked in august. ”

Jordan culver writes for the famuan, the florida a&m university student newspaper, which originally published this article.
